Defar close to
world record
on 5000 meters

Meseret Defar was not able to fullfil the expectations of Europes largest crowd. 9482 spectators in Ericsson Globe saw Defar miss the record by less than a half a second. The time 14:24.79 is the second fastest indoor result on 5000 meters. In the same race with 14.46.44, Alemitu Bekele competeting for Turkey broke the European record.

GE Galan is ranked as the second best international indoor athletics meet by the International Association of Athletic Federations, IAAF.
The history of the meet in the spectacular Globe Arena ranks back to 1990 and seven world records have been set in the Globe arena.
